Suno MCP Is Free on Every Plan, But Your Chat App Is Not
Suno says the MCP works on all its plans, Free included. That is true and almost irrelevant, because the assistant you plug it into has its own paywall.
Suno announced its MCP server in beta on 28 October 2026 and its release notes state the connector is available on all Suno plans, Free included, with songs drawing on your existing credits. The gate is not Suno. It is whatever assistant you connect it to: ChatGPT only permits custom connectors on Plus and above, while Claude allows custom connectors on Free but caps the account at one.1
That combination is the interesting part, and it is the detail most coverage skipped. Two separate gates decide whether you can use this today, and unlocking the first one does nothing if the second is closed.2

Prices measured on 27 October 2026. Vendor plan terms, allowances and prices change without notice, so treat every figure on this page as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent fact. Where a number here differs from the vendor's own pricing page, the vendor's page is correct and the figure above is simply older than it.
Once connected, you describe a song in the chat and Suno generates it without you changing tabs. You can also hand it a voice memo or a loop and ask for a full track, or ask for covers, extensions and mashups of anything already in your library. Every song lands back in your Suno library and can be added to a playlist from the conversation.
Setup needs no API key. You add the server as a custom connector, sign in to Suno, and grant permission. Suno lists Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and other MCP clients as supported, and the endpoint is https://api.suno.com/mcp.
The two gates, stated plainly
Gate one, Suno's side. The connector is in beta and needs an early-access sign-up, but it is not paywalled. The release note says "available on all Suno plans" and the press reporting confirms free accounts can connect.
Gate two, your assistant's side. This is where a free user actually stops.
- ChatGPT: custom MCP connectors sit behind developer mode, which OpenAI makes available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. Free and Go do not have it.
- Claude: custom connectors work on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, but a free account is capped at one custom connector.
- Claude Code and Cursor: paid tools in their own right, so the connector is not the constraint there.
Suno says none of this quietly. Its own documentation warns that some AI apps only allow custom connectors on certain paid plans. That sentence is unusually honest for a vendor shipping a connector, and it is the one worth reading twice.
What a genuinely free path looks like
It exists, and it is narrow. A free Claude account plus a free Suno account gives you a working path today, with two limits that matter.
The first is the single connector slot. Spend it on Suno and you have no room for Google Drive, Notion or anything else, and the slot is account-wide rather than per-conversation. You can remove and swap a connector, so it is not permanent, but it is one at a time.
The second limit is the one that decides whether this is useful or a novelty: a free Suno account cannot download any songs. The pricing comparison is explicit, and the free plan produces songs inside your library that you cannot export. Fifty credits a day is roughly ten generations, all of them playable in the Suno app and none of them yours to keep as a file.
So the honest summary of the free path is: a free assistant can compose songs on a free Suno account, and you cannot take the songs anywhere. That is a real limitation and it is the kind that only shows up three weeks later when someone asks for the audio.
Why Suno shipped it this way
Because the connector is an interface, not a free tier. Every song made through MCP draws on the same credit balance you would have spent in the app. Suno gives away nothing by making the door wider; it removes a reason to stay out of its workspace.
The strategic point is that the assistant becomes the surface and Suno becomes the backend. If people start asking Claude for a song the way they ask it a question, Suno's addressable market becomes everyone typing in a chat window, not everyone with a music subscription.
It also arrives while Suno is still in litigation with two of the three major labels. Putting a music generator inside Claude, a product of a company that is itself being sued, was always going to be noticed. Suno is running the distribution argument and the legal argument at the same time, which is a race it has to win on at least one side.
Whether it is worth connecting
If you already pay for ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro and you make music, yes, and cheaply. The connector costs nothing extra and the credits you spend are credits you would have spent anyway. The conversational loop is genuinely better than writing prompts in a form: you iterate on lyrics and style in the chat before committing credits to a generation.
If you are on a free assistant and a free Suno account, the answer depends on one question: do you want the songs as files? If yes, nothing here helps, because the free plan does not export. If you only want to hear ideas, the Claude Free path works and takes two minutes to set up.
If you were hoping this was the moment free users got free music, it is not. Suno's free plan is unchanged: fifty credits a day, no downloads, no commercial rights. The connector made the door wider without changing the room.
The same shape appears across this month. ChatGPT's iCloud connectors opened on the free plan because the assistant side was already paid for elsewhere. Google's promotional AI Pro plans turned out to be a smaller product than the label. Connectivity keeps being given away; capability keeps being metered.
Frequently asked questions
Does Suno MCP work on the free plan?
Yes, on Suno's side. Its release notes say the connector is available on all plans, including Free, and songs use your existing credits.
Can I use Suno MCP with free ChatGPT?
No. ChatGPT's custom MCP connectors require developer mode, which is available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, not Free or Go.
Can I use Suno MCP with free Claude?
Yes. Custom connectors work on Claude's free plan, but a free account is limited to one custom connector in total.
Do I need an API key?
No. You add it as a custom connector at https://api.suno.com/mcp, sign in to Suno and grant permission.
Can I download the songs I make through MCP on the free plan?
No. The free plan includes no song downloads. Songs remain in your Suno library and cannot be exported.
Is Suno MCP generally available?
No. It is in beta and requires an early-access sign-up, though access is not restricted by plan.
Connector availability on all Suno plans, credit usage and the beta/early-access status verified in Suno's own release notes on 29 October 2026. Suno plan limits and the no-downloads rule verified on Suno's pricing page the same day.
