Writesonic Dropped Its Free Plan. Entry Is Now $79.
Most guides still say 10,000 free words. Writesonic's own pricing page no longer offers a free tier at all, and the cheapest plan is $79 a month.
Writesonic no longer publishes a free plan. Its pricing page lists paid tiers only, starting at $79 per month billed annually for Starter, and the free route is a trial with no card required and no published length. The 10,000-word free tier and the $16 Freelancer plan described in most reviews no longer exist.1
This is worth stating plainly because the gap between what is published about Writesonic and what Writesonic now sells is unusually wide. Depending on which article you read, the free plan is 10,000 words a month, 25 credits a month, 10 one-time credits, or a 7-day trial. Some of those were true at different times. Only one is true now.
What the pricing page actually says
| Plan | Price, billed annually | AI articles per month |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | None | None |
| Trial | $0, no card required | Not published |
| Starter | $79/month | 15 |
| Basic | $199/month | 25 |
| Growth | $399/month | 50 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom |
We read those figures from writesonic.com/pricing on 20 October 2026. Monthly billing is higher than the annual equivalent across every tier.
Why the old numbers are still everywhere
Writesonic repositioned from a cheap AI writer into an AI search visibility platform, and the pricing moved with the product. The old lineup was a free tier with 10,000 words, a Freelancer plan around $16 and a Small Team plan around $29. None of them are sold now.
The $79 floor is not a repackaging of the old $16 plan. Starter includes brand tracking across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews plus a fixed number of AI articles, which is a different product from the one the older guides describe.
That should worry you about every other Writesonic number you find, including the ones in this article six months from now. Verify before you buy. Writesonic has repriced at least three times in three years.
The trial has no published length
Writesonic's page invites you to start free without a credit card, and does not state how long the trial runs or what it includes. Some reviews describe it as 7 days, others as a fixed credit allocation rather than a time period. Writesonic itself publishes neither.
No card requirement is the part that matters. If the trial is genuinely card-free, the worst outcome is that access stops, which costs you nothing but time.
What is genuinely still free
Two small tools remain free with no signup and daily limits: an llms.txt generator that builds a summary file of your site for AI crawlers from your sitemap, and a crawl checker that shows what an AI crawler can read on a page without running JavaScript.
Neither is a writing tool and neither replaces the free plan. If your interest in Writesonic was copywriting, they are not useful to you. If you publish a site and want to know how visible it is to AI systems, both are worth the five minutes and neither asks for an account.
When the trial is enough
Only to decide whether $79 a month is defensible. Run your own brief through the article writer, look at whether the output needs editing or rewriting, and compare it with what a general assistant produces for you at a fraction of the cost.
That is a real test. What it cannot tell you is whether the search-visibility tracking works, because that needs weeks of data across several prompts.
When it stops being enough
Immediately, if you wanted a free writing tool. There is not one here, and the trial is a demonstration rather than an allowance.
The comparison that matters is against tools that do still have permanent free tiers. Grammarly resets monthly, Rytr gives 10,000 characters every month indefinitely, and QuillBot sets no monthly ceiling at all. For ongoing work at zero cost, Writesonic is not a candidate.
