ClickUp Free: Unlimited Tasks, 60MB of Storage

Unlimited tasks and unlimited members, against 60 megabytes of storage. That ratio tells you exactly what the free tier is for.

ClickUp free costs $0 and gives unlimited tasks, unlimited free plan members, five spaces, 40 lists per space, 60MB of storage, three whiteboards, 100 automation runs, 5 active automation rules and 1 form. Unlimited at $7 a user monthly billed yearly removes the space, storage and automation caps.1

Sixty megabytes is not a typo. A single product photo or a short screen recording will exceed the entire free storage allowance.

Everything about the free tier follows from that: it is built for text, tasks and structure, not for files.2

The storage cap is the real constraint

60MB across the whole workspace, not per space or per user. Attach a handful of PDFs and a couple of images and the allowance is gone.

The workaround is to keep files in Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive and attach links instead. ClickUp integrates with all of them, and on free that is the only practical way to work with files.

It is worth saying plainly: a tool that markets itself as an everything app, with docs, whiteboards and clips built in, gives you 60MB to put anything in. The free tier is a demonstration of the structure, not the content.

Five spaces

Spaces are the top level of ClickUp's hierarchy: Spaces contain Folders, Folders contain Lists, Lists contain tasks.

Five spaces is a reasonable amount for one team. It gets tight when a company wants separate spaces per department and also separate ones for personal work and clients.

Forty lists per space and 100 folders per space are generous at that level, particularly against Todoist's five projects, where the free ceiling arrives much sooner.

Automations at 100 runs

Five active automation rules and 100 executions a month. A rule that fires on every task status change will burn through 100 runs quickly in an active team.

Unlimited raises this to 500 rules and 1,000 executions, and Business to 5,000. The tenfold jump for $7 suggests automation is the feature ClickUp actually wants to sell.

AI is present on every tier with limits applied, including free. ClickUp's Brain assistant is metered rather than blocked, so free users can try it without a separate purchase.

Unlimited members changes the maths

Most project tools price per seat. ClickUp's free tier allows unlimited free plan members, which makes it unusually viable for a volunteer group, a club or a student team.

Guests on free must be given full access with no permission restrictions, which is a security consideration rather than a cost one. Anyone who needs read-only guests or restricted access needs Unlimited.

For a two-person setup where unlimited projects matter more than unlimited members, Asana's free tier is the closer comparison.

When the free plan is enough

A team that works in text and links, keeps files elsewhere, and runs fewer than 100 automations a month.

Students, volunteers and side projects where unlimited members matters more than storage. Anyone structuring their work for the first time, since the whole hierarchy is available to learn on.

It is also a reasonable permanent home for a small operation that never attaches files.

When it stops being enough

The first time someone attaches a file, realistically. Or the first automation that fires more than three times a day.

Unlimited at $7 a user monthly or $10 monthly is one of the cheaper paid tiers here, and it removes storage, spaces, forms and automation caps in one step. Business at $12 adds real automation volume and dashboards.

If storage is the only blocker, keeping files in a dedicated tool and linking them costs nothing and removes the reason to upgrade.
