Calendly Free: One Event Type, One Calendar

Unlimited meetings, one type of meeting. That distinction is the whole free tier, and it decides whether Calendly can replace your scheduling at all.

Calendly free costs $0 with no card and gives one event type, one calendar connection, unlimited one-on-one meetings, a customisable booking page and the browser extension. Standard at $10 a seat per month adds unlimited event types, multiple calendars, automated reminders, Stripe and PayPal payments, and group meeting types.1

The word unlimited on the free tier applies to the number of bookings, not the number of event types. You can take as many meetings as you like, but they must all be the same kind of meeting.

For a single recurring call that is genuinely enough. For anything with two lengths, it is not.

Calendly counts seats by the person hosting meetings, not the person booking one. Invitees never need an account or a seat, which is why the free tier works for client-facing use.

One event type

An event type is a bookable meeting definition: a 30-minute intro call, a 60-minute consultation, an office hours slot. Free allows exactly one.

The workaround people try is a single flexible event and then negotiating length by email afterwards, which defeats the purpose of a scheduling link.

It is worth being clear about how restrictive this is. Anyone who needs a 15-minute call and a 45-minute call cannot do both on free, and the second one is the reason to upgrade.

One calendar connection

Calendly checks one calendar for conflicts. If you keep work and personal calendars separate, bookings against the connected one will happily land on top of the other.

Standard allows six connections, which covers the normal case of a work calendar, a personal one and a shared team calendar.

Double bookings are the visible symptom, and they are more damaging than a missing feature because the other person sees the mistake.

What free deliberately leaves out

Automated reminders sit behind Standard. Without them, no-shows rise, and reminders are the single highest-value feature in the list for anyone running paid or important meetings.

Payments at booking are paid-only, which blocks the obvious use of Calendly for consultants charging per session. Group and round-robin meeting types are also paid, so team scheduling is out entirely.

Notetaker, the AI meeting recorder, is not even on Standard. It sits on Plus tiers at each level, which is a further step up.

For meeting notes without Calendly's add-on, Descript handles transcription from a recording with its own free allowance.

Seats and the free tier

One person can host unlimited meetings on free. The moment a second person needs their own booking link under the same account, a seat is required.

Businesses with shared scheduling usually skip Standard for Teams at $16 a seat, because round-robin distribution and routing only appear there.

For anyone who needs a booking link as a minor feature rather than a main tool, Todoist and similar tools now integrate with calendars without charging for the scheduling itself.

When the free plan is enough

A freelancer or job seeker offering one kind of call, on one calendar, with no need to collect payment at booking.

Anyone who uses scheduling links occasionally rather than as a workflow. The core mechanic, a link that shows only genuinely free time, works completely on free.

It is also a fair way to test whether Calendly's booking page suits you before paying for a seat.

When it stops being enough

The second event type, which is usually the moment a working schedule needs both a short intro and a longer session.

Standard at $10 a seat a month is the upgrade and it resolves event types, calendars, reminders and payments together. Teams at $16 is the better buy for anyone scheduling on behalf of others, since it adds round-robin distribution.

At $120 a year per seat for Standard, this is one of the pricier single-purpose subscriptions in this series, and worth measuring against how many meetings actually get booked.
