- Description: A credit multiplier that only exists on one plan, from the company that also runs the free tier most people start on.

**Vercel's Token Pass costs $30 per team per month and returns $80 of credit each billing period for the featured open-weight models, and from 6 November 2026 that credit applies automatically through AI Gateway with any standard API key or OIDC token. It is available to Pro teams only; Hobby teams must upgrade, Pro trial teams must move to a paid plan, and Enterprise teams cannot subscribe at all. Unused credit expires at the end of each billing period.**[1](#sources)

The maths is the story. Nearly three times the subscription price comes back as model credit, on a product that also runs a free tier. Understanding why the gap exists explains a great deal about how AI platform pricing works at the moment.[2](#sources)

**Prices measured on 27 October 2026.** Vendor plan terms, allowances and prices change without notice, so treat every figure on this page as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent fact. Where a number here differs from the vendor's own pricing page, the vendor's page is correct and the figure above is simply older than it.

The featured model list is entirely open-weight: Moonshot's Kimi K3, Z.ai's GLM 5.3 and DeepSeek V4.1 Flash. That is not a coincidence, and it is the reason the multiplier can exist.

## Why $80 for $30 is not a loss

Credit multipliers on hosted open-weight models are a volume play. Vercel buys inference capacity at a rate it does not publish, sells access at a rounded price, and uses the credit figure as a marketing number rather than a cost.

The restrictions reinforce that reading. The Token Pass API key only works with featured models, which keeps the discounted credit inside the pool Vercel has bought cheaply. The model list can change, and Vercel says explicitly that it may change both the featured models and the providers serving them. A subscriber is buying access to a rotating selection, not to a fixed catalogue.

Token Pass is also in Early Access, with a limited number of spots. When those fill, the tab shows a waitlist instead of a subscribe button, and joining the waitlist neither upgrades the plan nor charges anything.

## What changed on 6 November

Before this week, Token Pass credit was attached to a dedicated API key. Now it applies to included model usage through AI Gateway regardless of how the request authenticates: a standard API key, an OIDC token, or an fx login all draw on the Token Pass credit first.

There is a fallback rule that matters more than the headline. When Token Pass credit runs out for the period, requests from a standard key or OIDC token fall back to the team's ordinary AI Gateway credits. A request made with a dedicated Token Pass key simply stops until the next period.

So anyone who set up a Token Pass key during onboarding gets the worse behaviour. Vercel's own guidance now is to switch to a standard API key or OIDC token if you want the fallback. It is a small migration that most early subscribers will not notice they need.

Data handling splits along the same line. Requests served through the Token Pass provider are zero data retention. Fallback requests follow the team's setting, so with team-wide ZDR enabled they route only to ZDR providers. Without it, a fallback can land somewhere that retains.

## The free-tier position

Hobby teams cannot subscribe. The Token Pass tab upgrades them to Pro first. That makes Token Pass the clearest example yet of a pattern running through every plan change this autumn: the free tier keeps the product and loses the discount.

This is a discount rather than a capability. Hobby users can still reach AI Gateway and still call the featured models; they pay the ordinary per-token rate instead of the bundle price. Nothing has been taken away from the free tier here, which puts Vercel on the gentler side of the changes this month, alongside [Cloudflare shipping agent controls to all plans](https://efreedirectory.com/cloudflare-ai-agent-policies-free-plan/) and against [its own decision to cut free logging off at 0.5 GB a day](https://efreedirectory.com/cloudflare-logs-free-plan-limits/).

The practical calculation for a small team is straightforward. If you are spending more than $30 a month on the three featured models through AI Gateway, Token Pass pays for itself immediately and leaves $50 of headroom. If you are not, the subscription is a $30 floor on a bill that might otherwise be $4, and the monthly expiry means unused capacity is wasted rather than banked.

That expiry is the number to watch. An $80 allowance that resets monthly is worth $960 a year in credit, but only to a team that spends nearly all of it every month.

## Frequently asked questions

**What is Vercel Token Pass?**
A monthly token subscription: $30 per team per month for $80 of credit toward featured open-weight models, served through AI Gateway.

**Can Hobby teams use it?**
No. Token Pass is for Pro teams. Hobby teams are routed through the Pro upgrade, and Pro trial teams must move to a paid plan first.

**Which models are included?**
Kimi K3, GLM 5.3 and DeepSeek V4.1 Flash at present. Vercel says the featured list and providers may change.

**Does the credit roll over?**
No. Unused credit expires at the end of each billing period.

**What happens when the credit runs out?**
With a standard key or OIDC token, requests fall back to your team's AI Gateway credits. With a dedicated Token Pass key, they fail until the next period.

**Is my data retained?**
Token Pass requests are zero data retention. Fallback requests follow your team's ZDR setting.
