- Description: Sixty minutes a month sounds workable until you notice the storage policy. Miss the download window and you have spent the credits for nothing.

**OpusClip free costs $0 permanently and includes 60 processing minutes a month, where one credit is one minute of source video. It renders watermarked vertical 9:16 clips at up to 1080p, offers no editor, and makes clips non-exportable after three days. Starter is $15 a month.**[1](#sources)

OpusClip is a clipping tool rather than an editor: you feed it a long video and it finds short vertical cuts. The free plan demonstrates that completely, then restricts everything around it.

The three-day window is the limit people do not see coming, and it costs real credits when it bites.[2](#sources)

## What the free plan actually includes

| | Free | Starter |
| ------------------ | ----------- | -------------------- |
| Price | $0 | $15/mo, monthly only |
| Processing minutes | 60/mo | 150/mo |
| Watermark | Yes | No |
| Resolution | Up to 1080p | Up to 4K |
| Aspect ratio | 9:16 only | Multiple |
| Editor access | No | Yes |
| Export window | 3 days | 30 days |
| Virality score | No | Yes |
| Credit rollover | No | No |
| Card required | No | Yes |

Auto reframe and AI captions with emoji and keyword highlighting are included, which are genuinely the two features that make vertical clipping worth automating.

## Credits measure the input, not the output

One credit is one minute of source video imported, regardless of how many clips you keep from it. A partial minute beyond the first rounds down.

That makes the maths friendlier than it first appears. One 60-minute podcast consumes the whole month on free. Four 15-minute videos also fit. A five-minute clip costs five credits and might yield eight shorts.

You can process only part of a video to save credits, which is the single most useful trick on the free plan.

## Three days, then the clips are unreachable

Free projects stop being exportable three days after processing. There is no storage on the free tier, and the clips do not become downloadable later.

If you spent 60 credits on a webinar and did not download the cuts that week, you cannot get them back without processing again, which spends the credits twice.

Paid plans extend this to 30 days on Starter and effectively unlimited on Pro. The three-day window is specific to free.

## No editor is the sharper limit

Free gives you the clips as the AI cut them. There is no text editing, no trimming, no caption adjustment, no reframing beyond the automatic choice.

AI clipping gets you most of the way and then leaves one obvious fix in every clip: a word mis-transcribed, a cut half a second early, a caption sitting over a face. Without an editor you publish it or you do not.

Starter includes the editor and filler and silence removal, which is where the $15 actually goes.

## The watermark ends professional use immediately

Every free export carries an OpusClip watermark. There is no setting, no credit purchase and no workaround.

For testing the tool on your own channel it does not matter. For a client deliverable it is disqualifying on sight.

## When the free plan is enough

You want to see whether AI clipping finds usable moments in your footage before committing to a monthly fee. Sixty minutes is enough to judge that on two or three videos.

It also works for a one-off personal project where the watermark is acceptable and you download within three days.

## When it stops being enough

The first client deadline, or the first time you need to fix a caption. Starter at $15 removes the watermark, adds the editor and extends the export window to 30 days, which are the three things that make it a production tool.

If the work is long-form editing rather than clipping, [CapCut's free plan](https://efreedirectory.com/capcut-free-plan-limits/) includes a full editor at no cost, with a different watermark catch of its own. If the edit is driven by a transcript instead, [Descript](https://efreedirectory.com/descript-free-plan-limits/) meters media minutes and gives you an hour a month.
