# Ecwid No Longer Has a Free Plan. Its Pricing Page Proves It.

- Description: The free plan that made Ecwid popular is not on the pricing page any more. The cheapest entry is a paid tier with a ten-product cap.

**Ecwid does not currently offer a free plan. Its pricing page opens at the paid Starter tier, which allows up to 10 products, 70+ site templates, a default company.site domain and email support. There is no $0 tier listed on the page. Anyone searching for a free Ecwid store should start from a different platform.**[1](#sources)

This is worth stating plainly because a great deal of published advice still describes Ecwid as having a free forever plan. That was true once. It is not what the vendor's own pricing page shows now.

**Prices measured on 22 October 2026.** Vendor plan terms, allowances and prices change without notice, so treat every figure on this page as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent fact. Where a number here differs from the vendor's own pricing page, the vendor's page is correct and the figure above is simply older than it.

Ecwid's pricing displays figures in several currencies and switches by region, so the page does not present one headline number. It does present the tier structure clearly, and no tier is $0.

## Why a free plan disappears

The economics of a hosted store are not like a website builder. Every store carries a checkout, order records, inventory and payment integration, and those cost money to run whether or not the merchant sells anything.

When a company removes a free tier it is usually because the conversion rate from free to paid did not justify the cost of carrying dormant stores. That is a business decision, not a signal about product quality, and it is happening across this category.

The practical consequence for a buyer is that any comparison page listing Ecwid as free is out of date, including several that still rank well.

## What Starter actually gives you

Ten products is a functioning small shop. The 70-plus templates mean the storefront can look designed rather than default. Email support and the company.site domain mean it can be live the same day.

What it does not give you is App Market access, which is the ecosystem of integrations that makes Ecwid useful for anything beyond a basic catalogue. Custom checkout, discount coupons, tax automation and reporting all arrive at Venture and above.

So Starter is a ten-product shop with no integrations. That is a legitimate product for a very small seller, but it is not the generous free tier people remember.

## Where to go instead if free is the requirement

If the goal is a free store with no monthly cost, the honest options in this category are [Big Cartel's Gold plan](https://efreedirectory.com/big-cartel-free-plan-limits/), which allows five products with no transaction fee, [Payhip](https://efreedirectory.com/payhip-free-plan-limits/), which is unlimited products at a 5% transaction fee, and [Square](https://efreedirectory.com/square-free-plan-limits/), which charges no platform fee and takes a processing percentage.

Each is a different shape of free. Big Cartel caps products, Payhip caps nothing but takes a cut, and Square charges only on transactions. The right choice depends on whether your constraint is product count, volume or upfront cost.

[Gumroad](https://efreedirectory.com/gumroad-free-plan-limits/) is a fourth option with no monthly fee at all, though it takes 10% plus 50 cents and does not permit physical goods.

## If you still want Ecwid

Starter is a reasonable ten-product shop for a seller who values the template library and the default domain over integrations. The step to Venture is where the product becomes capable, and it is worth pricing both before committing.

Because rates vary by region and currency, the figure that matters is the one shown on the checkout page for your country rather than any number quoted in an article, including this one.

## How it compares

Against [Big Cartel](https://efreedirectory.com/big-cartel-free-plan-limits/), Ecwid charges monthly from the first product and Big Cartel does not. Against [Payhip](https://efreedirectory.com/payhip-free-plan-limits/), Ecwid has more commerce depth above the entry tier and no free entry at all.

Against [Square](https://efreedirectory.com/square-free-plan-limits/), the trade is capabilities for cost. Square has a free plan with a real store; Ecwid has a more capable store that starts at a subscription.

## Frequently asked questions

**Does Ecwid have a free plan?**
Not currently. The pricing page opens at the paid Starter tier with no $0 option listed.

**What is the cheapest Ecwid plan?**
Starter, which allows up to 10 products and 70+ templates. Prices vary by region and currency.

**Did Ecwid used to be free?**
Yes, and a great deal of older published advice still says so. The vendor's current pricing page does not list a free tier.

**What is the best free alternative to Ecwid?**
Big Cartel for a five-product fee-free shop, Payhip for unlimited products at 5%, or Square for a free store with per-transaction fees only.

**Can I run Ecwid on my existing website?**
Yes on the paid tiers. Embedding a store on an existing site is Ecwid's core feature rather than a website builder's.

*Plan structure verified against Ecwid's own pricing page on 23 October 2026\. Ecwid displays prices in multiple currencies by region and no single headline figure is published on that page, so none is quoted here.*
